Shop Mechanic / Welder
SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The Shop Mechanic will work within the container and chassis repair facility to support customer equipment repairs on containers, chassis, trailers and all other associated intermodal equipment. Perform structural repairs as necessary to company equipment as well as fabricate lifting gear as required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on all shipping containers and chassis using IICL standards as a guide.
Welding and cutting during routine and extensive repair of containers and chassis in accordance with proper procedures set forth by DOT, OSHA, & IICL.
Cutting and measuring; working with power tools both pneumatic and electrical.
Measuring and gauge damage for estimate and reparability, complete work orders, complete inspection paperwork in accordance with IICL.
Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on all support equipment as assigned
Must be able to obtain IICL Dry Box and AWS weld certification within in 12 months or 2 test cycles.
Additional duties as assigned.
Pass an extensive background check.
Must be able to successfully pass a drug screen and DOT physical.
Must maintain DOT physical standards.
Must have excellent communication skills, above average hand eye coordination.
Use of basic hand tools.
Must be able to work independently.
Proper use of hand and mechanical tools of the trade.
Safe operation of various types of heavy and light maritime and maintenance equipment.
Relevant computer hardware and software applications.
Basic arithmetic function (add, subtract, multiply and divide)
3-5 experience welding/ fabrication technology with emphasis on structural welding, weld theory
High School diploma or equivalent
Possible trade school-level training in welding/fabrication
valid Forlift Operators Certificate
Understand oral and written communications, both general and technical.
Provide clear instructions/directions.
Problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
Values time and manages time effectively. Effectively prioritizes and can manage a broad range of activities
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to stand; walk; and reach with hands and arms. Required to lift and carry up to 60 lbs on an intermittent basis. The employee is frequently required to walk with alternate standing/squatting/bending. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is subject to environmental conditions, open warehouse or outside environment dependent upon facility. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
