Assistant Director - Innovation Contracts
The candidate will be responsible for: Review, draft, manage, and negotiate a high-volume of research agreements, primarily academic and corporate Industry Sponsored Research Collaborations, Multi-Site MTAs, Collaborations, Non-Exclusive Licenses for Biological Materials, Non-Exclusive License for Patent Rights, Material Evaluation Agreements, Exclusive Licenses, Term Sheets, and Memorandums of Understanding with minimal supervision. Drive the development and implementation of various internal standard operating procedures to support the agreement volume and scope described above. Create and refine agreement templates that optimize negotiation turnaround time and provide drafting guidance notes and alternative language for negotiation. Develop relationships with Principal Investigators/Faculty, internal research departments, Office of General Counsel, Compliance, and outside counsel. Manage and/or mentor contracting staff within the assigned team, including educating, training, and professional development plus intern/extern program management. Function as contracting resource for BODFI licensing staff. Perform other duties and special projects as required. May manage agreements and develop operational processes for Dana-Farber Centers and Consortiums to ensure that Dana-Farber upholds its financial, operational, and legal obligations. Participate in development of policies supporting research enterprise at Dana-Farber (eg. human tissue transfer policy). Prior legal contract negotiation experience required. Bachelor’s degree required (a biology or chemistry background is a plus). J.D. required. Should preferably have 2-3 years of experience negotiating contracts in an academic technology transfer setting. Experience supervising or mentoring others in contract negotiation strongly preferred.
