The Associate Database Administrator largely provides operational SQL database services to the organization with minimal guidance from more senior DBAs. Some of the responsibilities of this role would include data loading, as well as owning, tracking and resolving database related incidents and requests, fulfilling requests and resolving incidents within SLAs, reviewing service related reports (i.e. database backups, maintenance results, and performance counters) on a daily basis to ensure service related issues are identified and resolved within established SLAs, responding to database related alerts and escalations. Will frequently work with more senior DBA to confirm/validate an approach prior to moving forward.
Under the leadership of more senior DBAs may assist in the design, implementation, maintenance and repair of new and existing databases.
Primarily provides support to more senior DBAs in the accomplishment of their daily activities such as:
Structured testing of database designs, applications, and technology platforms
Security administration, backup and recovery planning
Capacity planning
Performance and tuning
Research and evaluation of new tools and techniques
Development of related policies, standards, and procedures
Perform ongoing routine operational and monitoring activities to ensure the database environment is stable and capable of meeting ongoing business needs
Top 3-5 must have skills:
2 years experience with database administration in SQL Server that includes evaluation, installation, migration, and configuration
Experience with ETL packages
Knowledge of indexes, and statistics and their impact on query performance
Understanding of SQL Server tools including; SSMS, BCP, SSIS, and system SPs
Ability to write SQL statement and author and troubleshoot T-SQL
Knowledge of Windows Server (2003 and 2008)
Ability to author and maintain strong documentation related to database operational processes and procedures
Provide on-call duty support of production databases
