Against that backdrop, we are seeking a talented employee benefits leader for the role of Associate Health & Welfare Benefits Principal. In this role, you will apply forward-looking, innovative thought to strategy, design and delivery of health and welfare benefits to help position the company as an employer-of-choice in the present and future.

The Associate Health & Welfare Benefits Principal is a Director-equivalent position that utilizes deep understanding of contemporary practice and the associate community to develop, implement, and manage competitive health and welfare benefit opportunities that contribute to associates' well-being and emphasize perceived value while balancing expense and business requirements, including regulatory compliance. The Principal leverages subject matter knowledge, analytic insights from multiple sources, and experience to anticipate and overcome challenges, develop relationships with key stakeholders, and deliver company-wide benefit solutions that drive associate satisfaction and support organizational goals.

While Louisville, KY would be the ideal location, we are open to considering alternate locations for exceptional candidates.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

Lead and oversee health plan strategy, including primary touchpoint for internal collaborators as well as external payor partners as business needs expand.

Develop new partnerships with external innovators to manage and moderate trend, allowing for maximum financial utility to be delivered to associates

Monitor external trends and benchmark design/offerings relative to varied peer sets.

Lead internal work groups with partners from across the enterprise to ensure consistency in experiences which rely on multiple touch-points.

Manage relationship with key external partners to deliver core health plan capabilities such as member engagement, clinical guidance, and network navigation.

Own and manage all aspects of the annual Open Enrollment season for Humana associates

Provide insight and thought leadership into the overall design and execution of Humana's health and welfare programs.

Partner closely with internal collaborators to develop and implement associate-focused experiences for events such as onboarding and key partner training.

Maintain all plan documents and materials for Humana's health & welfare programs while partnering with HR Digital and Communications to deliver information through existing internal channels.

Partner with Benefit Administration and Workday Configuration teams to ensure overall implementation and execution of strategy is achieved in practice.

Assist with benefits appeals/exceptions as needed

Support on-going M&A activity, including due diligence, transition planning and onboarding presentations in collaboration with HR M&A team, HR peer organizations, and business partners.

Key Candidate Qualifications

In general terms, the ideal candidate will possess extensive (typically 10 years) experience in employee benefits roles of increasing responsibility. This person will have current or recent experience operating the benefits plan for a large firm (i.e., Fortune 500), or with a major benefits consulting firm. They will also have demonstrable expertise in structuring plan offerings that achieve optimal balance between employee needs, financial considerations, talent strategy, and regulatory compliance. Bachelor's degree is required, but a Master's is preferred.

In addition to the above, the following technical qualifications and personal attributes are also sought:

Experience with M&A integrations/divestitures related to health and welfare benefits

Experience with supporting a differentiated workforce through multiple health and welfare plans

A thought leader who drives a future-focused agenda to build strategies from present to future state, and who anticipates changes and disruption in order to see opportunities for the future.

Excellent oral/written communications and presentation skills, including the polish, poise, and executive presence that will ensure effective interaction with senior and executive level audiences

Highly collaborative mindset and excellent relationship-building skills, including the ability to engage many diverse stakeholders and SMEs, and influence and win their co-ownership in outcomes

Current or recent experience in a large, highly matrixed company (i.e., Fortune 500), with proven ability to influence leaders and key stakeholders in such an environment

Experience with joint ventures among larger institutions
