Assoc. General Counsel & Compliance Officer

Duties: Furnishes legal advice on general institutional issues. Reviews and maintains currency in local, state, and federal laws and regulations. Advises the leadership of the University and component institutions on legal matters to include preparing for, monitoring, and participating in all major and minor litigation. Reviews, consults on, and drafts, as needed, policies and procedures. Evaluates requests for information subpoenas. Offers opinions to senior leadership on matters including to conflicts of interest, contracts, fringe benefits, personnel issues, collections, intellectual property, student and administrative issues, real estate, and so forth. Interprets and distributes relevant USDOE regulations and “Dear Colleague” letters as well as NVDOE material. Reviews, negotiates, and drafts, as needed, various contracts. Assists in the investigation of areas of concern at the University and its colleague institutions as needed or requested by the Deputy General Counsel. Performs frontline-attorney duties and responsibilities. Recommends settlement or resolution of disputes or claims. Provides oversight of institutional effectiveness efforts, including the use of evaluation, and linking results to planning. Performs other duties as assigned by the Deputy General Counsel.
