Director Of Compliance And Ethics

The candidate will work closely and collaboratively with campus units playing a key role in a federated compliance environment, including the Offices for Research, Athletics and Recreation, Human Resources, Financial Operations, General Counsel, and among others. Engage a network of compliance partners, and develop a strategy to build cohesion, share best practices, and triage concerns with that group. Ensure appropriate sharing of data, compliance issues/findings, regulatory visits, and resource needs/efforts back to the central compliance function. Ensure that non-compliance concerns are addressed, tracked, and communicated to University leadership. Address complaints/concerns raised through the University’s hotline, ensure timely communication, and coordination of investigations with responsible units. Promote use of the tool by educating University personnel on its purpose. Annually participate in an update on the compliance program to the Board of Trustee’s Audit, Risk, and Compliance Committee. Work collaboratively in partnership with other key members of the University Risk and Safety Services organization to ensure compliance issues are being managed in alignment with Northwestern’s risk governance model. Oversee two current staff members and will work to ensure the talents of the team are being appropriately utilized in support of the compliance function. Perform other duties as assigned. Must have successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in a scientific major or related; OR appropriate combination of education and experience. Should have 3-5 years of experience in compliance, law, or risk management in a large, complex environment. PhD, JD, MBA, or other advanced degree preferred. Experience working at a higher education institution with varied research portfolios desired.
