Payroll Analyst
The candidate assists with preparation of the annual payroll budget and serves as accounting liaison to specific cost departments for budget-related analyses. Coordinate work assignments for Firm's payroll staff. Provide "first line" of response to payroll questions regarding procedures, exceptions and technical/system issues. Collaborate with department management and others to develop operating procedures, plan for system upgrades, and to troubleshoot technical, system or tax issues. Add new employees, update earnings and benefit deductions, change direct deposit and tax withholding information, coordinate special payments, record termination dates using ADP Workforce Now. Serve as firm payroll resource for questions, and liaison to outside payroll processor and other interested third-parties. Timely and accurately process all regular pay, special payments and bonuses, deductions, loan payments, contributions, garnishments, support orders, etc.. Understand the nuances of different pay types including salaried, salaried plus overtime, hourly, billable hour and K-1 partner pay. Transmit semi-monthly payroll to outside processor on a timely basis as required. Review semi-monthly payroll audit reports to ensure accuracy and reasonableness of the processed payroll. Prepare manual payroll checks and prepare wire request to transfer sufficient funds into the payroll bank account to cover draws and payroll taxes/garnishments. Research and answer/delegate payroll related questions including iPay questions. Act as a liaison to the external payroll processor to ensure accurate and timely filing of regulatory reports and remittance of payments related to federal forms 940, 941 and W-2 as well as state income tax withholdings and unemployment taxes. Ensure accuracy of third-party records in regards to employee contributions to flex, transit and the retirement plan. Forward employee contributions on a timely basis, per plan or IRS rules. Prepare standard and customized reports as requested. Prepare semi-monthly payroll journal entries. Prepare and respond to various external payroll surveys as required. Prepare the Partner compensation distributions. Participate in annual financial and employee benefit plan audits. Provide new hire orientation in regards to payroll processes. Develop the annual payroll calendar reflecting due dates, transmittal dates, and periods covered for the hourly, paralegal and salaried staff. Calculate overtime for paralegals. Upload files from retirement plan provider including 401k contributions and loan payments. Review and process time information recorded in Kronos time and attendance software for non-exempt employees, looking for abnormalities and possible data errors. Associate’s degree in accounting or equivalent relevant experience is required. Should have 5+ years progressive payroll-related experience.
