This position is responsible for the execution of CME Group’s System Resilience/Disaster Recovery strategy, and reports to the Executive Director of Business and System Resilience. The candidate will help manage the overall System Resilience/Disaster Recovery program, including assessment, planning, testing, and recovery while working across business and technology departments to ensure alignment and execution of program objectives. The role is positioned within the Business Continuity Management Department of the Global Operations Division and works closely with all facets of the Technology Division, including: architecture, infrastructure and operations, and development.
In this capacity, the candidate will assist with setting strategy, planning, managing and delivering on system resilience projects and improvements that ensure the company is capable of system recovery at the level necessary to support its business, customers and regulatory requirements.
The Manager, System Resilience, will work to implement processes, procedures and systems that will help ensure that the company’s system resilience capabilities remain in compliance with all laws, regulations and best practices. Additionally, the candidate will contribute to projects for other Business Continuity Management team initiatives, as necessary. The candidate will oversee day-to-day work relating to system resilience and business continuity testing, maintenance of documentation, continuous improvement and gap analyses.
Manage the integration of recently acquired business lines into CME Group’s System Resilience program, including policy/procedures, capabilities, and testing.
Participate and manage, from a Global Operations perspective, data center migrations and consolidation, as necessary.
Participate in risk assessment of most critical processes, applications and 3rd parties, to successfully implement risk-based system testing strategy.
Champion engineering standards and practices for higher availability of processes/technology.
Participate in the change management process to ensure synchronization of environments.
Serve as the System Resilience/Business Continuity Management Team representative for Severity 1 technology incidents.
Ensure seamless integration of system resilience with all other Business Continuity Management Department functions, including: Business Resilience, Incident Response, Vendor Risk Management, and Operational Resilience.
Ensure that all technical components of CME Group Business Recovery Plans are tested as defined in CME Group Business Continuity Management policies and procedures, or whenever significant changes are made to those components.
Oversee: execution and reporting of results from all recovery tests to management, the updating and accuracy of system resilience plans, recovery-specific documentation, data integrity efforts, and program policies and procedures.
Skills & Software Requirements:
The candidate should have a strong grasp of high-availability technologies, including servers, networking components, database / storage and associated replication technologies, cloud infrastructure (and best-practice devOps methodologies.)
Familiarity with business continuity best practices and standards, including ISO 22301, IOSCO and FFIEC guidance.
Awareness of prevailing theories on global operational resilience efforts, including whitepapers and other guidance.
Professional Experience & Qualifications
The candidate for this role should possess:
5-10 years disaster recovery/system resilience experience preferably within the financial services industry.
Strong business skills with the ability to interact with non-technical audiences at all levels of the organization.
Superb organization skills and be able to delegate tasks.
Ability to influence and drive execution throughout the organization including technology staff in other divisions with no direct reporting lines.
Considerable knowledge of the organization's non-proprietary technologies and architectures.
Expertise in: High Availability technology infrastructure including servers, storage, and networks.
Multiple deployment architectures, including on-premises data centers and hybrid cloud.
Data replication and restoration between data centers.
Testing of disaster scenarios including loss of applications, servers, networks, data centers, databases.
Technology Risk Appetite and Assessments.
