Job Description:

This position provides direct leadership, tools, training and support on Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental (HSSE) matters within Shipping & Maritime, Americas.

Specific accountabilities include:

Drive the implementation of the HSSE Maritime Standards across the Shipping & Maritime network in North and South America.

Represent Shell at industry bodies and regular external supplier engagements, supporting Shipping & Maritime Americas leadership in raising safety performance in the industry.

Lead the Shell Maritime Partners in Safety Program in the Americas.

Manage the documentation, pro-active follow-up, and analysis of incidents involving Americas regional vessels.

Oversee the Shipping & Maritime, Americas Marine Incident Reporting & Investigation Procedure and associated 24-7 Duty Team.

Participate as a member of the Shipping & Maritime, Americas Leadership Team.

Support the implementation of “Requirements for the Quality Assurance of Maritime Vessels” in support of the positive vetting of cargo transport vessels for regionally trading tankers, towing vessels, and barges being used by Shell. as detailed in the HSSE & SP Control Framework Transport Manual Maritime Safety.

Coordinate the Maritime HSSE Competence requirements for Shipping & Maritime, Americas and coordinate periodic HSSE training.

Provide HSSE functional support, guidance and expertise for projects and routine business as requested. The nature of the Trading business requires the incumbent to be dynamic and responsive to the chartering needs of the businesses.

Requirements:

Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer

Minimum 10 years of experience as a Maritime Health, Safety, and Environment (HSSE) technical professional or other Maritime experience with significant HSSE management experience.

Must be a strategic thinker and be capable of looking of ways to innovate the applications within the Shell HSSE Control Framework to the business communities within Shipping & Maritime, including application of related digitalization concepts & opportunities.

Operational HSSE assurance experience on vessels or in a shipyard is preferred.

The individual should have suitable related HSSE qualification(s) or certification for the role, or willing to work towards suitable HSSE qualification(s). Experience in HEMP process, barrier management, audit, and HAZOP (Hazard and Operability) Study preferred.

Knowledgeable in analysis of Significant and High-Risk Incidents. Able to mentor local staff to develop their own incident investigation and analysis skills. Practitioner in causal, TRIPOD, or equivalent root cause incident analysis is preferred.

The knowledge and the ability to apply national and international legislation (ie; USCG, US CFR, OSHA, MARPOL, SOLAS, ISM) and Industry standards, codes and guidelines (ie; ISGOTT, ICS, IBC) is key to this position.

An ability to communicate effectively and professionally with all levels within the organization and with internal and external contacts is essential.

It is essential for the incumbent to be fluent in English and able to report effectively verbally and in writing.

Spanish bilingual preferred.

Self-motivated, experienced professional with ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Excellent interpersonal skills (including teamwork) are essential for success in this position.
