Associate Attorney II
The candidate will be responsible for: Prepares for and conducts court appearances, depositions, motion practice, arbitrations, mediations, and trials. Works on timely responses to Civil Remedy Notices/bad faith claims. Reviews new file assignments, develops a litigation strategy, files initial pleadings, and propounds discovery. Drafts reports, internal memoranda, correspondence, and pleadings. Regularly communicates with client, including strategy conferences. Prepares client/witnesses for depositions, arbitrations, and mediations. Stays up to date on relevant statutes, case law, and local county rules. Maintains a high ethical standard. Works collaboratively with lead attorney and support staff. Travel for business, as required (up to 25%). Assists in overseeing the work of the in-house counsel staff and external professional service provider(s) engaged to assist the in-house counsel staff in executing their responsibilities. Must have Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school; an active state bar license (preferably Florida). Should have 3-5 years of experience in insurance-related legal work. Experience in Property & Casualty industry preferred. Must be able to apply knowledge gained through legal research of relevant case law and controlling statutory authority. Prior experience with fact and expert witness depositions, motion hearings, and pleading/motion preparation required. Must have advanced drafting skills and a proficiency in MS Office Suite. Should have excellent grammar with attention to detail and accuracy. Must have a background in insurance coverage and/or insurance defense.
