We appear for legally aided clients in all jurisdictions all over Victoria. We provide high quality advocacy and advice services to in house lawyers and are committed to the highest standards of advocacy. Reporting to the Chief Counsel, you will appear as counsel predominately in criminal and some civil and human rights litigation in various courts and tribunals in metro and regional locations across Victoria. You will provide expert legal advice in a range of criminal matters. You will also assist in developing the advocacy expertise of our criminal lawyers through mentoring and training and contributing to our advocacy training programs.This position offers a high degree of autonomy and responsibility and will provide you with the opportunity to use your advocacy expertise to contribute to quality legal practice in both Melbourne and regional areas.About you:You will be an experienced criminal law advocate. You will have substantial knowledge and experience in the practice of criminal law, particularly in indictable matters across state and federal jurisdictions. You will have the ability to produce high quality oral and written advocacy, appear in complex litigation and provide high level advice on legal and policy issues. You will have the ability and aptitude for mentoring and training criminal lawyers to develop their advocacy skills and demonstrate a commitment to working collaboratively with others in fostering a supportive learning environment.Crucial to your success in this role will be your ability to appear for legally aided clients in complex trials, appeals and other matters, to develop strong relationships and communicate effectively with clients and stakeholders at all levels.
