Family Law Attorney
The candidate will zealously represent our clients in all areas of family law. Assist individuals in a variety of situations such as navigating prenuptial agreements and attending court hearings for divorce and custody modifications as well as contempt actions, abuse and neglect, and domestic violence actions. The prime candidate will have experience with a range of sensitive legal issues such as child abuse, child custody, and domestic violence, and be able to maintain composure, negotiate, and argue effectively even in emotional and high-stress situations. Prepare legal documents such as legal pleadings, motions, marital settlement agreements, contracts, judgments, and orders for a high volume of cases. Organize and maintain client files to ensure they are kept current. Divide marital assets, including real estate, when necessary during divorce proceedings. Ensure clients are effectively represented at court hearings as needed. Help solve legal problems for clients by analyzing the situation, understanding their needs, and creating a strategic plan of action. Preparing and approving pleadings drafted by support staff. Writing and reviewing discovery. Providing direction to support legal staff regarding trial preparation, Court appearances, Legal research and writing, Client communications, Settlement negotiations and appearing at mediation. Preparing cases for contested hearings and trials. Directing legal support staff. Ability to successfully represent both plaintiff and defendant sides of a case. Candidates should be great negotiators and communicators, specifically in situations when emotions and stress are high. Must have at least three years of family law litigation experience. Licensed to practice law in West Virginia. OH licensure is preferred but not required. Have a strong desire to help clients through tough times and want to help them get into a better position. Strong negotiation skills, the ability to think on your feet, and feel comfortable in a courtroom.
