Legal Assistant
The candidate will report to a designated Facility Attorney, who supervises the program operations at the assigned Facility. Responsibilities: Conduct Know Your Rights Presentations using approved material; Conduct initial interviews (“Legal Screenings”) in accordance with RAICES policy; Provide referrals for released children in accordance with RAICES policy; Data entry in various database systems; Assist attorneys with their caseload, providing direct representation to individuals eligible for immigration relief; Regular (bi-weekly) travel to Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) shelters located in the area; Translate documents between Spanish and English; General administrative responsibilities, including detailed case management, timekeeping, grant compliance, and other tasks related to project compliance; and Other duties, activities and responsibilities related to assisting unaccompanied minors in a legal context, as assigned. Must have fluency (written and verbal) in both the Spanish and English languages; Should have possession of Bachelor's degree or comparable knowledge and work experience; Should have excellent ability to communicate effectively with individuals of different cultural and educational backgrounds; Should be proficient in use of technology including MS Office, Google Apps, and Internet research. Must be bilingual.
