Supervising Attorney-Litigation Unit
Responsibilities: Provide legal representation and/or lead or participate in litigation efforts through all phases of litigation, including motions practice, discovery, trial, brief writing, and oral argument (as appropriate). Identify trends and emerging issues, conduct legal research, draft pleadings and briefs, identify litigation issues and develop legal strategies. Collaborate with community-based organizations to identify cases/plaintiffs, work effectively with pro bono partners and communicate via the media regarding legal advocacy and policy efforts. Work with the Unit Director to develop and maintain local best practices that are aligned with the mission, vision and legal strategy of COMPANY. Communicate best practices to local unit team members through training and supervision and helps establish and monitor KPIs. Manage the day-to-day activities and services delivered by the branch office’s Unit and provide relevant information to the Unit Director and local Managing Attorney. Supervise the work of Attorneys by managing the needs of the team’s representation work, including providing legal support, performance feedback and substantive and procedural guidance. Monitor workflow and caseload of staff to identify and address potential workload issues and progress. Work closely with the Unit Director and Managing Attorney to provide internal training and organize external training for new and veteran staff in relevant practice areas. Participate in interviews and evaluation process for designated staff. Inform Managing Attorneys and Unit Directors of necessary information regarding their unit needs for budget proposals. Foster an inclusive, collaborative, and supportive work culture. Handle a caseload to maintain legal practice and expertise; and perform other additional duties as needed, including performing legal and casework when staff unavailability necessitates coverage of work or to other appropriate circumstances such as, for example, providing on-the-job training to staff or for professional development.
