Job SummaryThe Nurse Practitioner (NP) works collaboratively with members of the healthcare team to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his/her assigned unit. The practice of the NP emphasizes health promotion and maintenance, disease prevention and the diagnosis and management of acute and chronic diseases. The position is associated with a significant level of autonomy; therefore, the individual must be highly motivated and able to work independently. As an Advanced Practice Nurse (APN), the NP will demonstrate leadership as a mentor, educator, researcher and provider. The NP adheres to and functions within the scope of practice defined by the Arizona Board of Nursing and the organization. Adherence to Nursing practices theory based nursing that is evidenced based utilizing a Shared Governance model for decision-making. Practice focuses on performance standards that act in accordance with the organization's initiatives.

Demonstrates knowledge and clinical judgment to provide primary care to patients. Performs general physical examination as indicated to determine presence of disease; utilizes physical findings, laboratory results and medical history to develop short-term and long-range treatment plans that include treatment of acute illness, management of chronic problems and provision of preventative care services.
Maintains, monitors and ensures accurate and timely documentation.
Interacts with patients and families, school nurses, teachers, counselors, social workers, referral agencies and specialty care providers. Provides counseling education and resource information on wellness, prevention of illness and health maintenance.
Participates in staff meetings, quality assurance activities and continuing education courses. Reviews medical records as needed with assigned Medical Director. Collaborates with other caregivers to synthesize research findings in order to develop systems for achieving optimal patient and family outcomes.
Refers patients as appropriate. Follows up with resident physicians and nursing staff on patient care, as and when appropriate. Coordinates referrals for specialty services when indicated.
Monitors, inventory, medical equipment service and supply requests to meet service standards. Utilizes appropriate formulary when prescribing medications. Assists in development of clinical practice polices and procedures and reviews annually to ensure compliance.
