JOB Title:  Planning Specialist



This position will perform a variety of more complex procurement and supply chain related duties on progressively higher volume vendor accounts including, but not limited to forecast and inventory analysis, program management, negotiations with Buyers, report preparation and presentation.




*Performs moderate to complex analyses and management reports on a regular basis including, but not limited to the following: inventory, forecast and field rate analysis and updates, aging inventory, push/pull in reschedule / cancel POs, price changes, product profiles, warehouse discrepancies and accounts payable discrepancies. *Work in the planning system to approve or reject recommended orders. *Work with suppliers to resolve quality issues. *Maintain the set goals on fill levels, inventory turns, and inventory levels. *Assesses and evaluates life of inventory; review and analyze metrics and prepare reports on a regular basis, Performs Estimated Time of Arrival inventory updates and reviews. *Performs sales queries and monitors purchase orders, vendor relationships and program management. *Performs data entry on purchase orders. Maintains estimated delivery time in the SAP/CPS systems. *Close collaboration with the Forecast Specialist to discuss anticipated demand and replenishment issues. *Collaborate with the Purchasing team and Customer Service and relevant business leads to resolve out of stock or stock shortage issues. *Escalate issues that exceed thresholds. *Adhere to Global standards. *Provide input toward continuous improvement and operational excellence. *Performs system enhancements testing. (Super users) *Review exception reports.

Physical Involvement


Must be able to sit, bend, turn and maintain other related body postures frequently as necessary to perform the majority of clerical job duties.


Must be able to visually utilize computers and other office equipment, to properly enter information received, as well as to read required documentation.


Must be able to visually inspect blueprints/diagrams of parts in order to evaluate and to provide suppliers with accurate information, as well as to read additional required documentation.


Must be able to prepare concise accurate written documents.



Must possess the independent capability of planning and organizing responsibilities to insure efficient operation of departmental activities.


Must be able to perform basic arithmetic calculations (i.e. addition, subtraction, multiplication and division).


Must be capable of multi-step and sequential problem solving activities; these include the comparing, analyzing, and calculating of data relevant to departmental operations.


Must possess the ability to understand and verbally communicate in the English language due to continual contact with written English instructions, labels, and other related documentation.




A Planning Specialist is primarily responsible for his/her own work.




Completes occasional, yet significant, documentation according to company procedures.

Possesses ability to react to change productively and to handle other work tasks as assigned.

Keeps work area clean and orderly.

Assist in other departments or functions when necessary.

May travel to company meetings or to suppliers to review capabilities of providing materials.

May be required to train new recruits to the Procurement function.




Work primarily performed within an office setting; occasionally may be required to perform job duties outside the facility.


Temperature and humidity are regulated while indoors.




Education:       Knowledge and skill as would normally be obtained through a course of study for a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or a related field.

Experience:     3 years directly related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.


Special Knowledge or Skills: 


*Previous SAP System experience is preferable. *Thorough knowledge of planning & procurement techniques. *Knowledge of engineering and manufacturing processes. *Ability to work in a dynamic, team-oriented work environment. *Ability to use and demonstrate proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word and Excel. Develop and use spreadsheets prepared in Microsoft Excel on a daily basis. *Familiarity with and ability to demonstrate planning, procurement, supply chain and program management metrics. *Must possess the ability to understand and effectively verbally communicate in the English language due to continual contact with written English instructions, labels, and other related documentation.
