Profile
Provides information on issues related to self-advocacy and the rights of persons served. Person will assist in gathering information from persons served, families, and the community regarding the quality of experiences and services provided by vendors. Assists in assessing person served and family quality of life issues and satisfaction with RCOC’s services and supports (e.g., NCI surveys).
POSITION SPECIFICATIONS:
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Must be a person who receives services from RCOC.
Knowledgeable about the Lanterman Act and basic rights of people with developmental disabilities.
Knowledgeable about self-advocacy.
GENERAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to communicate effectively in one-to-one conversations, in small and large group settings and through correspondence.
Ability to work as part of a team.
Ability to understand another person’s point of view, represent and speak for the interests of all persons served.
Willingness to help others.
Must be proficient in the use of a computer, including Microsoft Office products: Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint, and independently produce all correspondence, record keeping, presentations, and related documents and materials.
Must be able to multi-task independently.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and composure when dealing with sensitive, confidential matters required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Extensive sitting at work station (80% of time).
Adequate manual dexterity and coordination to operate laptop, computer, phone, etc.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must perform each
of the following essential duties satisfactorily with minimum

Provide information and support to consumers and their families about self-advocacy, rights, and RCOC’s services.
Respond to all communications (e.g., telephone calls, letters, emails) in a prompt, professional and respectful manner.
Attend internal and external meetings to share persons served perspectives and concerns.
Assist in gathering information from persons served and their families about the quality of services provided by vendors.
Maintain documents and report for the Community Services department.
Assist the HCBS Coordinator with meeting and maintaining compliance regarding the HCBS Federal Rule requirements.
Assist with conducting training sessions for RCOC’s staff, persons served, their families, vendors and community groups on self-advocacy, rights and other related topics.
Collaborate with RCOC’s Peer Advisory Team Chairperson on advocacy and networking within Orange County.
Participate in review of National Core Indicators (NCI) survey results, assist in disseminating information to consumers and their families in a user-friendly way, and help implement NCI-related quality improvement plans as requested.
Use a computer and produce all correspondence and/or related reports with minimal direction.
Meet all project and other task assignment deadlines as specified.
In accordance with RCOC policy, implement the highest standard of customer service in all activities.
Act within the scope of authority in a manner consistent with Agency guidelines, policies and practices.
