SUMMARY:

Responsible for identifying, tracking and writing about statutes, regulations and court cases that impact California businesses and employers for CalChamber Web sites, newsletters, books and other products.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following, not necessarily in the order of priority. Other duties may be assigned as required to meet the needs of CalChamber.

  • Identify, and track new laws, including without limitation, federal and state statutes, regulations and court cases that impact California employers.
  • Writes content for CalChamber publications and products that not only analyzes changes in the law but also discusses how the changes will impact the workplace in a non-technical manner. Must be able to write to the intended audience made up of business owners, human resource professionals and other non-lawyers.
  • Coordinate and assist the editorial staff and Product Development to ensure all products, websites, publications and newsletters are current and accurate. 
  • Review marketing copy to ensure accuracy of employment law content as needed.
  • All other duties as assigned by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • J.D. required; SPHR certified a plus.
  • 5-7 years experience in advising employers and managers on compliance with federal and state employment law and how the laws impact the workplace.
  • Able to identify and track new laws, including without limitation, federal and state statutes, regulations and court cases that impact California employers.
  • Prepare articles and other written materials for non-lawyers that analyze statutes, regulations and court cases as well as discuss any impact these laws may have on the workplace.
  • Knowledge of California laws and regulations as well as regulatory organizations.
  • Experience with software including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Computer literate with knowledge of web and print content management systems helpful.
