Associate Director, Accounting and Operations
This position supports our Research and Development organization and will supervise the accounting activities of the group. The position will report to the Senior Director, R&D Finance and will be responsible for the following:
Provide Oversight of Clinical Trial accounting and other accounting activities of R&D Finance organization. Work closely with Clinical Business Planners, Clinical Trial Managers, Contract Managers and External Vendors (CRO's) to understand clinical trial contractual terms, incurred activities and Biogen obligations.
Provide oversight of accounting for external collaborations including the upfront establishment of financial terms during contract negotiations and subsequent audits as applicable.
Enhance the Clinical Trials Accrual Methodology to streamline reporting and enhance accuracy to minimize variability between actual results and budgets.
Ensure effective accounting processes and policies are in place, and continually identify opportunities for improvement.
Review Journal entries and balance sheet account reconciliations.
Drive high quality, accurate, financial and operations analysis and reporting.
Ensure compliance with SOX requirements and Biogen accounting policy and procedures.
Key interface with External Reporting and Tax department to meet select external and tax reporting deliverables.
Maintain control of key areas of balance sheet and support external audit.

* Minimum of 8-10 years accounting experience, preferably a combination of public accounting and private industry
* Knowledge and understanding of U.S. GAAP, and SOX compliance requirements
* Life sciences industry experience preferred
