Global Director, Commercial Strategy
Duties: The candidate is responsible for the development and implementation of commercial strategies to drive and grow BCLP’s global business and for leading and growing the pricing, legal project management, and client analytics teams. Work closely with the executive leadership of the Firm, our Departments, Practice Groups, and Industry Groups to play a key role in the planning, execution, and evaluation of initiatives and campaigns to generate profitable revenue growth. Will be responsible for identifying emerging trends to locate addressable market opportunities; collaborating with key stakeholders across the Firm to validate and test growth scenarios; performing appropriate financial analyses to forecast revenue and profit models; and leading the design and enablement of appropriate service delivery models, inclusive of performance monitoring mechanisms. Will oversee and coordinate the work of specialist business teams across market research, client and business analytics, practice economics, legal project management, and pricing. Working closely with Finance, Marketing, and Business Development leadership you will design and implement scalable tools, training, and staff services to client and matter teams. Facilitate the planning, assessment, and decision activities of the Firm’s Operations teams across practices and geographies. Develop talent, process, ways of working, and governance interactions around the following 3 primary capabilities. Pricing; Design and deploy fee arrangements and pricing models that align client value with firm profitability. Create training and resources to improve organizational competencies in client-facing negotiation and value communication. Monitor and evaluate service delivery performance as against agreed-upon fee arrangements. Enable scalable client and matter management through tools and technology, particularly for services subject to budgeting requirements or alternative fee arrangements. Develop and manage pricing team to work consultatively with partners in creating, negotiating, and managing profitable pricing arrangements. Guide the deployment, utilization, performance, and development of Legal Project Management team to provide specialized support to large legal projects and portfolios. Develop meaningful insights about BCLP’s clients, markets, and competitors. Conduct fact-based, quantitative studies to frame and evaluate new commercial opportunities for both organic and inorganic growth. Understand the requirements and buying behaviors of existing clients to support appropriate prioritization of key clients and to ensure their needs are being met appropriately. Contribute to the synthesis of insights and ideas to identify and support growth opportunities, including for client-facings analytics, and support cross-business units/practice group initiatives for profitable revenue generation. Work across the organization to prioritize initiatives, define requirements, articulate individual roles & shared success factors. Develop key business partnerships across the Firm and with external stakeholders in order to collaborate with and coordinate diverse, cross-functional teams. Design, author, and refine complex analyses to deliver actionable briefings on decision options, implications, and recommendations for executive audiences. Establish and monitor both short- and long-range targets, metrics, and effectiveness indicators to drive on-time and on-plan execution. Lead red team analyses and after-action reviews to generate recommendations for continued organizational learning. Foster best practices and promote a performance-oriented culture of collaboration, learning, and accountability.
