A law firm in Atlanta, GA, is seeking a Tax Controversy Associate Attorney with at least 2 years of experience. The ideal candidate will have practical experience in tax disputes, including controversy, litigation, audits, and appeals, and expertise in federal income and estate/gift tax issues. Candidates with experience in law firms, accounting firms, the IRS, the Tax Court, or the Department of Justice (Tax Division) are preferred. A degree in accounting, a CPA license, or an LL.M. in Tax is strongly preferred. Exceptional academic and employment credentials are required, and admission to practice in at least one state, with Georgia being a plus, is necessary.

Duties:

  • Manage tax controversy disputes, including litigation, audits, and appeals.
  • Provide legal counsel and representation to clients facing federal income and estate/gift tax issues.
  • Conduct legal research and analysis on complex tax matters.
  • Draft and review legal documents, including complaints, motions, and briefs.
  • Assist in negotiations with tax authorities and opposing counsel.
  • Collaborate with clients and internal teams to develop effective tax strategies.
  • Represent clients in administrative hearings, Tax Court proceedings, and other legal forums.
  • Stay updated on changes in tax laws, regulations, and court rulings.
  • Maintain accurate and organized case files and client records.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in tax controversy.
  • Practical experience with tax disputes, litigation, audits, and appeals.
  • Expertise in federal income and estate/gift tax issues.
  • Prior experience in a law firm, accounting firm, IRS, Tax Court, or Department of Justice (Tax Division) is preferred.
  • A degree in accounting, a CPA license, or an LL.M. in Tax is strongly preferred.
