The Dangerous Goods Transportation ComplianceSpecialist position is a part of the Customer Care and Aftersales (CCA) LeanWarehousing Operations team. The team member will be responsible fordefining the business requirements necessary to support the compliancework of the General Motors North American (GMNA) CCA Dangerous Goods ComplianceTeam.
Regular workassignments may include:
Determine which GM service parts are hazardous for transportationutilizing supplier and regulatory information. Accountable for GM CCA and supplier hazardous material parts coding toensure safe transportation.
Code hazardous parts in system (IMS) assigning appropriate hazard andfreight codes for proper bill of lading description.
Create and maintain all billing/consolidator codes in IMS for Logistics.
Support IS&S group with hazardous requirements in Warehouse ManagementSystem (WMS) & Host system.
Support GM CCA Logistics group, Processing Centers, Parts Distribution Centers,and cross-docks with hazmat compliance and training needs.
Provide onsite support in one of our largest dangerous goodsdistributions centers, a minimum of twice a week.
Single point MSDS and Special Permit related to Dangerous Goods needscontact for GM CCA for the US, Canada and Mexico.
Maintain hazardous materials site for GMNA dealers (data input).
Support the Dangerous Goods Compliance Team in writing hazmat bulletinsfor GMNA dealers, GMNA CCA facilities and field staff.
Support GM CCA Logistics group and Warranty Parts Center (WPC) withhazmat compliance.
Support GM CCA Health & Safety and Chemical Risk Management withregulatory compliance and training needs.
Support the GMNA new model launch group with new hazmat technology andinternational shipping for test parts.
Support GMNA freight forwarders and consignments including Parts DistributionCenters with hazmat compliance and training.
Support GM CCA ACDelco Warehouse Distributorcustomers with hazmat compliance and training questions.
Support GM dealers with hazmat compliance and training questions.
Coordinate internal and external hazardous materials training.(DOT/IATA/IMO).
Coordinate all training material and regulatory manual purchases.
Maintain GMCCA manuals including FOM and PPOM 506-A index- hazardousmaterials transportation codes and shipping descriptions.
Create and maintain FedEx hazardous shipping description templates forShip Manager or Masterform.
Support Processing Centers and Parts Distribution Centers with FedExissues shipping hazmat including software questions.
Participate in onsite audits of all GM CCA Processing Centers and Parts DistributionCenters reviewing hazardous material processes. Expected travel estimated at 25%.
Participate in onsite audits of GM CCA third party providers â€“ such ascross-docks, consignments. Ship direct chemical suppliers, etc.
Represent GM CCA as an active member in NAAHAC (North AmericanAutomotive Hazmat Action Committee). Participate in work groups when necessary.
Represent GM CCA as an active member in the trade group COSTHA (Councilon Safe Transportation of Hazardous Articles). Attend annual forum andparticipate in industry workshops, training seminars and breakout sessions. Attendother trade association conferences that support dangerous goods transportationregulations.
Monitor regulatory changes for hazmat transportation from U.S. DOT,ICAO, IMO, Mexican DOT (NOMS), and Canadian DOT (TDG).
Hazmat Specialist will be required to travel 8 -15 times per year inGMNA for site visits and 2 times per year for NAHAAC.
Expertise in dangerous goods transportation to help preventinterruptions in GMCCA supply chain.
The Specialist must be currently trained to the 49 CFR, IMDG and IATA/ICAO regulations and requirements and have a clear understanding of TDG and NOMregulations.
The Specialist must have demonstrated understanding of the hazardousmaterial transportation regulatory framework for North America.
The Specialist must have experience providing technical compliancesupport for hazardous material/ dangerous goods transportation.
Bachelorâ€™s degree or proof of five or more years of certifications andexperience preferred
Advanced knowledge of GM CCA systems including use of IMS required.
Hazardous material emergency response experience preferred.
Proficient computer skills in MS Word, MS Excel, MS Project, IMS, SAP
Demonstrate strong written and oral communications.
Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects, effective projectplanning in terms of resources, strategies, cost, and time with ability to meetproject timelines.
