Assistant Attorney General
The candidate will provide professional legal representation in two areas within the Human Services Division. First, this attorney will work on Consumer Protection matters involving the enforcement of the Wyoming Consumer Protection Act. In addition, this position works on compliance with the Master Settlement Agreement with Tobacco manufacturers. This position involves participation in administrative hearings and state court trials; legal research and opinion drafting; review of draft legislation to advise the Governor and other clients; and consultation with the section supervisor and division deputy on strategic legal decisions. The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed in the job level. Provide professional legal representation to the Consumer Protection Unit, including enforcement of the Wyoming Consumer Protection Act and legal representation to the Tobacco Settlement Unit; Review, respond and advise agency in responses to inquiries, complaints and other communication; Provide legal services required by the Master Settlement Agreement (MSA) with tobacco manufacturers, including Non-Participating Manufacturing (NPM) enforcement actions, tracking compliance by conforming NPMs, research and contact activity and advice on legal matters; Conduct legal research to provide day-to-day legal advice, draft pleadings, respond to motions and present arguments in court; Present legal conclusion and advice in various formats, including legal documents, oral documents, oral presentations and formal and informal legal opinions; and Advise agency clients with respect to relevant statutes and administrative procedures. Should have Juris doctorate. Should be already familiar with the Consumer Protection Act, the Master Settlement Agreement between the states and tobacco manufacturers, administrative law. Knowledge of trial and appellate practice; administrative law and civil procedure is required.
