Job Title: Associate Attorney
Job Overview:
A law firm based in Houston, TX, is seeking a Litigation Associate to handle a portfolio of collection and recovery matters across various stages of litigation. This fully remote position is ideal for an attorney licensed in Texas with strong negotiation skills and experience in civil litigation. The role entails direct case ownership, from claim assessment to resolution, and offers a commission-eligible structure without billable hour requirements.
Duties:
Review and assess newly assigned claims for litigation readiness within the designated jurisdiction
Manage assigned inventory with guidance from a supervising attorney, ensuring consistent progress and compliance with state-level goals
Handle the full litigation process, including document review, discovery, legal filings, and settlement negotiations
Sign and execute court-related documents
Communicate case developments with supervising attorneys and clients
Monitor and analyze legal developments, including changes to relevant statutes, regulations, and case law
Conduct legal research and draft memoranda or pleadings as needed
Appear in court for hearings, trials, and other proceedings when required
Negotiate settlements directly with unrepresented parties, opposing counsel, or related stakeholders
Coordinate with external collections or litigation counsel
Support organizational compliance initiatives related to debt collection practices
Respond to client audits concerning jurisdiction-specific litigation procedures
Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned by the managing or regional attorneys
Requirements:
Active license and good standing with the State Bar of Texas
Litigation experience with a focus on civil procedure or collections preferred
Ability to manage a high-volume caseload independently
Demonstrated capability in analyzing legal issues and negotiating effective resolutions
Comfortable working in a remote environment with consistent communication
Education:
Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school
Certifications:
Admission to the Texas State Bar (mandatory)
Skills:
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and internet-based research tools
Effective written and verbal communication with strong attention to grammar and clarity
Excellent time management and organizational skills
Ability to quickly adapt to changing priorities and urgent matters
Collaborative mindset with sensitivity to working with individuals from diverse backgrounds
Maintains strict confidentiality and professional integrity
