Summer Associate Program

The summer associates participate in a long weekend of training, socializing, and relaxation, which lays the foundation for the summer. Summer associates are invited to participate in many local training sessions and social events at the beginning of the summer. The firm provides many pro bono assignment opportunities during the summer program, and it strongly encourages summer associates to take advantage of these opportunities. All summer associates meet with the pro bono partner and pro bono leaders in their offices to learn more about the different types of pro bono work done and what it is like to do pro bono work as an associate. Work assignments relate to ongoing client matters. In addition, throughout the summer, the business and litigation departments offer many classes. On the business side, summer associates learn the basics of mergers and acquisitions, venture fund formation, and venture capital financings, to name a few. On the litigation side, they attend classes regarding discovery, brief writing, and witness interviews. The firm also offers workshops on writing and negotiation skills, client counseling, and depositions to give summer associates the opportunity for hands-on skills training as well as interaction with and feedback from partners and senior associates. The firm requires an eight-week minimum commitment at the beginning of the summer.
