Profile
Warby Parker is a vertically-integrated, holistic vision care company, built from the ground up by teams that understand technology. That means we have data on
everything
we do, giving us unprecedented visibility into our supply chains, product design, marketing, retail and ecommerce, systems, customer experience, and much more. Every one of those areas provides opportunities for data-driven improvements. As the Senior Director, Data, you will lead the team striving to make that a reality.
Reporting to the CTO, you will oversee the managers of several teams. The Data Engineering team owns the systems that provide clean data and tools to the 150 analysts across the company who build dashboards, visualizations, and ad-hoc analyses. Data Science provides support across the business, powering recommendations, experiments, optimizations, deep analysis, and analytical training. And Data Infrastructure helps keep it all running smoothly and efficiently, while upholding our standards as a public company working with healthcare data.
The ability to nurture talent and influence great performance will set you up for success in this position, as will familiarity with applications of statistics and machine learning, modern software engineering, and enterprise business intelligence. We’ll count on you to encourage a collaborative and empathetic culture, ensure quality results, and work with your team on strategy and execution.
What you’ll do:
Support the Engineering Managers and Directors on your team, ensuring that they and their direct reports are engaged, productive, well-informed, and able to do their best work
Make sure that business partners are highly satisfied with the work that our Data teams produce
Drive the strategy, product vision, and goals for data across Warby Parker
Manage the annual operating and capital budgets for Data, ensuring that the budget is consistent with Warby Parker’s overall strategy
Understand our company-wide strategic objectives and milestone metrics, making sure your team is staffed appropriately to achieve those goals
Uphold best-in-industry standards in analysis, data science, and data engineering produced by your team, working closely with team leads who set day-to-day technical direction
Work across the company to ensure that Warby Parker is world-class in how we use data to make decisions and improve experiences for our customers
Influence strategic decisions on topics related to data, key metrics, experimentation, and other adjacent domains
Who you are:
Backed by 10 years of relevant experience, including personal responsibility for high-impact projects that required expertise in analysis, statistics, software engineering, and business
An excellent communicator (in groups big and small) with strong interpersonal skills, able to discuss complex issues with both technical and non-technical audiences, in person and in writing
Driven by a desire to build and maintain strong relationships, help others in career development, and create inclusive environments
Experienced working with cloud providers, distributed systems, and service-oriented architecture
An eloquent, empathetic influencer who is well-versed in strategic business concepts and used to collaborating with and advising senior leaders
Able to make tough decisions and evaluate team performance objectively and rationally
Some benefits and perks of working at Warby Parker:
Health, vision, and dental insurance
Flexible “My Time” vacation policy
Retirement savings plan with a company match
Parental leave (non-birthing parents included)
Cell phone plan reimbursement
Free eyewear, plus discounts for friends and family
And more—just ask!
About Us:
Warby Parker was founded with a mission: to inspire and impact the world with vision, purpose, and style.
We’re constantly asking ourselves how we can do more and make a greater impact—and that starts by reimagining everything that a company and industry can be.
We want to demonstrate that a business can scale, be profitable, and do good in the world—without charging a premium for it. And we’ve learned that it takes creativity, empathy, and innovation to achieve that goal.
Since the day we launched in 2010, we’ve pioneered ideas, designed products, and developed technologies that help people see. We offer everything our customers need for happier eyes at a price that leaves them with money in their pockets, from designer-quality glasses and contacts to eye exams and vision tests.
Ultimately, we believe in vision for all, which is why for every pair of glasses or sunglasses we sell, a pair of glasses is distributed to someone in need through our Buy a Pair, Give a Pair program. Over eight million pairs of glasses have been distributed in over 50 countries; that means eight million people now have the glasses they need to learn, work, and achieve better economic outcomes.
At Warby Parker, you can look forward to company outings and events, volunteering and learning opportunities, and just great company filled with curious, kind folks. Dreaming up and sharing ideas aren’t responsibilities reserved for certain teams or leaders; the challenge (a really fun one) of innovation is on all of our shoulders. Teammates can also connect around common interests, backgrounds, and identities, no matter their home base, through our various employee resource groups. (We’re happy to say that the Human Rights Campaign has named us a Best Place to Work for LGBTQ employees!) That sense of community and belonging keeps us excited to walk through the door every day, wherever that door may be.
We're driven to continue building a workplace, based on inclusive behaviors and equitable systems, where all employees can bring their authentic selves, feel engaged, and share their perspectives as a valued member of Team Warby.
Transparency is what we’re all about, and our annual
Impact Report and Racial Equity Strategy
lay out how we’re sticking to these values.
