The Counsel, Environmental & Real Estate leads the Environmental Affairs program in support of Rayonier’s U. S. forestry, real estate and resource development businesses. Works collaboratively across the enterprise to ensure management systems are in place to comply with environmental laws and regulations and relevant corporate policies and practices. Informs and advises the businesses and senior management, regarding future risks and impacts from new laws, compliance issues or liabilities. Recommends strategies to mitigate those impacts. Engages with government agencies, and industry technical and trade associations to identify, track and participate in the development of environmental regulations impacting Rayonier. Works with the businesses, legal and government affairs staff and other teams to assess environmental requirements and risks and develop appropriate responses. Assists the businesses in addressing matters relating to Enterprise Risk Management, compliance, permitting and agency interactions and other areas of expertise. This role also supports the real estate and forestry business units on real estate and commercial transactional matters and assists more senior lawyers in the department.
