Client Practice Liaison
The candidate will prepare and file new patent applications, i.e., utility, continuation, divisional, and reissue applications, including any additional essential documents with the USPTO. Review and proofread documents from the USPTO (including Official Filing Receipts, Notices of Publication, Notices of Recordation, and Issue Notifications) and report those documents directly to the client. Handling of all associated formalities after filing new applications includes, but is not limited to preparing formal documents such as Declarations, Substitute Statements, and Assignments; Responses to Missing Parts; preparing and filing Information Disclosure Statements (IDS); reviewing and processing Notices of Allowance; prepare and file Issue Fee payment; and review of Official Patent Grant. Prepare and file international (PCT) patent applications, direct foreign applications, and follow-on documents. Monitor and satisfy client-specific dockets. Maintain working knowledge of all country-specific requirements and their respective deadlines (e.g., formal documents, translations, certified priority documents, etc.). Prepare and file PCT responses (e.g., article 19/34 amendments, chapter II demands, responses to invitations). Communicate directly with foreign agents and with clients (e.g., send formal documents to clients for signature, provide follow-up as necessary, and send to foreign associates). Keep attorneys informed of the status of foreign applications. Perform research and compile data as requested by attorneys. Retrieve and organize documents as needed. Various other tasks as requested/needed. Should have 5+ years of experience providing intellectual property support in a law firm environment. Knowledge of US, foreign and PCT patent practice is required. A College degree or comparable paralegal experience is required; paralegal certificate preferred. Should have excellent data entry and organizational skills. Should have strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to plan, organize, prioritize, and coordinate projects. Should have the ability to use good judgment, initiative, and command of resources to accomplish results. Should have the ability to work well as a team member. Should have strong interpersonal skills to communicate and follow instructions effectively from a diverse group of clients, attorneys, and staff and to provide information with courtesy and tact. Should have the ability to multitask and work independently. Flexibility and ability to prioritize a continually changing workload. Should have the ability to work well under pressure and be self-motivated. Should have the ability to meet the Firm’s billable hours requirement while maintaining excellent service and producing consistently high-quality work product that meets or exceeds the Firm’s quality standards.
