The candidate will assist with a main focus on assisting the Litigation Division. Organize, interpret and apply legal principles and knowledge of complex legal problems. Recommend and implement goals, objectives, and practices for providing effective and efficient solutions to legal issues. Exercise sound judgment; work cooperatively with others; and prepare clear and concise oral and written correspondence and presentations. Select, supervise, train, coordinate and direct work, and evaluate staff. Communicate clearly and concisely. Perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation. Should have Juris Doctorate Degree from an accredited law school recognized by the American Bar Association; and Must be a licensed attorney at law admitted to practice by the State Bar of New Mexico. Preferred knowledge: Practice of litigation; municipal, local or state government; and governmental affairs. Organization, duties, powers, limitations and authority of city government, the city attorney's office. Practice of federal and state law, including trials and appeals. Modern office procedures, methods and equipment including computers. Methods and techniques of legal research. Civil defense litigation Legal research, analysis, and writing.
