Summer Program

The summer associates have opportunities to engage in our pro bono work and community service projects by volunteering at immigration or veterans legal advice clinics, working on a federal appeals, and drafting pleadings in housing or family disputes. or planting and harvesting vegetables for a food pantry. Will have the opportunity to work with and learn from lawyers and policy professionals who have invaluable perspective and experience gained from years of prior government service and clerkships across the country. Will have the freedom to explore projects from multiple practice areas or to emphasize one or two, and will be encouraged to get involved in pro bono projects. May also have the chance to observe or participate in client conferences, negotiations, witness interviews, depositions and court hearings. Each summer associate will have access to a partner mentor and associate mentor and a work advisor, and will receive formal reviews at the midpoint and the end of the summer program. The formal legal training offerings include litigation skills and appellate advocacy programs, both of which are taught by practicing lawyers and culminate in trial and appellate exercises as well as a regulatory training. Summer associates also have the opportunity to join lawyers in the office at informative breakfast and lunch meetings featuring guest speakers including clients and government officials. Summer associates are able to choose own assignments and create a workflow that best suits professional interests. The firm also provides practical on-the-job training, such as writing seminars, mock trials and mock negotiation exercises, to help build skillset and sharpen critical thinking.
