The Director - IT Applications (Application Development Leader role) is accountable for the effective and efficient release and delivery of software development, along with significant contributions to strategic thought leadership and planning. The position will be responsible for effectively standing up multiple Nationwide lines, along with managing, coaching, and developing IT associates (including contractors) across multiple technology platforms. The successful candidate will have demonstrated depth of leadership experience in Agile software delivery implementation and execution, excellent communication skills, and the ability to collaborate / partner with multiple IT Business Service Areas (BSAs) in delivering technology solutions across Nationwide.
This position will also serve as the Aligned ADL to the Pet BSA and be located in Brea CA.
Summary:Directs activities and staff responsible for one or more components of the systems development life cycle including business analysis, systems analysis, applications development and/or quality assurance and testing analysis functions. May be responsible for all business analysis, systems analysis, applications development, and/or quality assurance and testing functions for a business segment or function. Reviews and approves systems development life cycle project requests and coordinates schedules and related departmental activities to ensure projects are aligned with the company standards and IT strategy. Provides overall direction and guidance to assigned project managers. Reviews and evaluates work of subordinate staff and prepares performance reports. Prepares activity and progress reports regarding application systems analysis and programming sections. Responsible for the development, implementation and approval of business analysis, systems analysis, application development, and quality assurance and testing policies, standards, procedures and methodologies.

Core Duties and Responsibilities:
Oversees all activities and functions of a staff involved with the analysis, definition, specification, development, testing, documentation, and installation of new and/or existing applications. Directs and approves all projects associated with the business analysis, systems analysis, applications development, and/or quality assurance and testing discipline. Formulates and implements the overall systems development life cycle strategy for a business area.
Directs a staff responsible for the analysis and validation of user and system requirements as well as existing business processes and information systems. Directs all activities associated with the design, development and implementation of new programs and/or modifications of existing applications. Directs a staff responsible for the creation of prototypes and other methodologies for new and/or existing systems. Oversees the development and implementation of all test plans and strategies.
Oversees a staff responsible for the design, coding, testing, debugging, documentation and implementation of software applications. Directs all staff and activities involved in a wide range of quality-control tests and analyses to ensure that software meets or exceeds specified standards and end-user requirements.
Oversees all activities and functions associated with the definition and development of specifications as well as the programming and quality testing of technical modules, applications, prototypes and computer programs.
Oversees one or more aspects of the systems development life cycle.
Oversees a staff responsible for the planning, development and implementation of strategies related to the systems development life cycle. Directs a staff involved with the evaluation and consultation of technical solutions for systems development life cycle problems and issues. Provides overall direction and guidance to assigned project managers.
Oversees all project plans, application designs and resource allocations to ensure that projects are aligned with the company's overall standards and IT strategy. Responsible for the development and management of the overall budget and operating plans for the one or more areas contributing to the systems development life cycle.
Responsible for all feasibility studies, time and cost estimates, and the establishment and implementation of new or revised applications systems and programs.
Directs a staff involved in test planning, test requirement definition, test design, test script, test data development, test automation, test environment development and script configuration management as well as test execution.
Oversees the development and implementation of the overall strategic vision and integration of broad range ideas regarding business analysis, systems analysis, applications development, and quality assurance and testing capabilities.

Position is a second-level manager and has direct responsibility for people management. In addition to project deployment, responsibilities include career development, performance management, and pay determination and communication.

Typical Skills and Experiences: Education: Undergraduate studies in computer science, management information systems, mathematics or related field is strongly preferred.
License/Certification/Designation: N/AExperience: Ten years of experience in programming and systems analysis. Five years of experience in management is preferred.Knowledge: Must have proven knowledge in computer programming language. Must have a thorough understanding in systems and data processing policies, practices and procedures. Must have a thorough understanding in systems analysis and design techniques. Must have expert knowledge of the systems development life cycle. Extensive knowledge of project management concepts and techniques required. Must have a thorough understanding of financial statement preparation, budgeting and financial analysis concepts and techniques.Skills/Competencies: Must be able to direct a staff responsible one or more components of the systems development life cycle. Must be able to formulate and establish business analysis, systems analysis, applications development and/or quality assurance and testing strategies and initiatives. Must have the ability direct multiple teams that analyze applications and systems. Must be able to oversee a staff that programs systems requiring various interfaces. Must possess strong problem-solving skills to determine the programming effects on existing systems. Must have strong decision-making skills for problem identification and solution recommendation. Must possess strong project leadership and management skills. Must be able to develop, implement and present applications development strategies. Must have strong written and oral communication skills to prepare and communicate programming plans and procedures as well as to interact with all levels within the company.
