Director - Supplemental Health Compliance

The candidate will analyze proposed and newly implemented laws and regulations from all 50 states with a focus on supplemental benefits. Engage in advocacy work in states on issues pending before state insurance departments, legislatures, and executive officials. Partner with internal government relations team and external industry colleagues on advocacy. Partner with internal partners and oversee implementation and development of policies and procedures, providing direction on compliance requirements in new and existing state laws and regulations. Coordinate with Corporate Compliance and legal on implementation and development of controls. Represent MetLife in negotiations with state and federal insurance agencies to secure the approvals required to offer MetLife’s supplemental health products in all 50 states and on various federal platforms. Work as the compliance subject matter expert and coordinate with internal partners to complete regulatory audits to ensure compliance with both state and federal requirements. Lead compliance projects to develop and implement proactive and corrective action plans, and complete testing to ensure compliance. Thorough knowledge of state and federal government laws and regulations. Must have 5+ years managerial experienced and 10+ years of related work experience and/or bachelor’s degree in related field. Advanced degree or law degree preferred. At least 5 years’ experience in compliance-focused role. Ability to foster a collaborative environment. Ability to devise solutions and think strategically. Ability to delegate responsibilities appropriately. Competencies: Analytical, strong computer skills, leadership and organizational skills, project management skills, makes sound business decisions, ability to coach and mentor, decisiveness and communication skills. Experience with regulatory processes and issue systems; prior experience in interactions with state Departments of Insurance.
