Associate General Counsel - Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine

Duties: Drafts and reviews contracts on behalf of the Health Center (AHC) and the Health Care Network Faculty Group Practice Plan, including managed care agreements, software and hardware agreements, health care equipment agreements, affiliation agreements, leases and other agreements related to the operation. Assists with health care regulatory matters including laws governing providers in the Medicare and Medicaid programs including Stark; Anti-Kickback; HIPAA, HITECH, False Claims; Civil Monetary Penalties. Assists with State health care regulatory matters including licensure and mandatory reporting. Performs legal research, analyzes issues, drafts memoranda, and provides guidance to regarding for health care matters. Researches legal issues in connection with policy development. Provides legal guidance arising out of day to day operational issues for the AHC. Assists the Compliance Officer with compliance-related matters. Assists the with corporate transactions and corporate organizational matters. Exercises good judgment in matters needing notice to higher level managers. Stays apprised of the latest developments in health care laws applicable. Provides legal advice to Information Technology leadership regarding the purchase, licensing and implementation of HIPAA compliant health information security systems. Assists with such additional matters as may be assigned by the Chief Legal Officer for Health Affairs (CLO). Performs other related duties as assigned or directed.
