Environmental Planner
What is the role?
The role of Environmental Planner is to support delivery of Shell’s Strategic Ambitions and Aspired Portfolio through our Winning Capabilities in a complex world subject to diverse economic, societal, environmental, and political drivers. Effective management of our environmental risks and opportunities is integral in this success and we are committed to protect the environment, respect our neighbors, cause no harm to people, and help the world move towards a lower carbon future.
As an Environmental Planner, you will be responsible of the following duties:
Collaborate with asset teams during “front-end” activity planning to provide expertise to support asset delivery.
Identification of risks and opportunities, as well as identification and implementation of appropriate mitigations.
Champion Respect for Nature pillar of Shell’s Powering Progress strategy through implementation of Environmental Framework commitments and initiatives (e.g. waste assessments, deforestation, critical habitat).
Assist in desktop assessments of new locations, right of ways and provide environmental advisement to ensure internal/external compliance.
Assess applicable environmental requirements (federal, provincial, local), determine applicability to proposed projects, and provide steer on the implementation of robust compliance systems.
Advocacy on strategic issues, participate on committees to assess impacts and benefits of new and/or changing environmental policy and regulations; develop internal advocacy positions aligning line of business drivers and cross business perspectives.
Communication and characterization of environmental risks and sensitivities to ensure consideration and adjustments in project planning and integration into best practices.
Maintain good relationships and work with Regulatory agencies on environmental applications/approvals as well as interpretation of regulations and requirements.
Provide asset process support (Opportunity Frames, Decision Quality, Management of Change, Construction Readiness Review, etc.)
New business/divestment HSSE/due diligence support
Support internal environmental requirements
Manage external consultants (including deliverables, safety, budgets
Deliver compliant environmental support that maintains overall asset health and license to operate.
Actively identify and participate in continuous improvement activities.
Requirements
What we need from you
Must have legal authorization to work in the Canada on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
Minimum of 5 (five) years working experience in Oil/ Gas, Environmental, , Mining, Forestry, New Energies, or Independent Consultant industries
Candidate must have a Degree in Environmental Science, Natural or Biological Sciences, Sustainable Development, etc.
Ability to identify issues and provide solutions.
Ability to self-start, collaborate with multiple teams, participate actively in operational design/development.
Strong communication and negotiation skills, as well as ability to influence without direct authority.
Broad experience across subject matter areas with ability to synthesize complex information.
Possess management skills to oversee contractor work and drive performance/delivery.
Communicate effectively and provide visible leadership on environmental issues through all levels of the asset.​
