Provides education to nursing staff to reinforce basic nursing practice. Educates assigned nursing units on new equipment, processes, and policies.  Assists with the orientation of all new staff members to the unit.  Will be visible on the units daily and may require working evenings, nights and weekends.  This is a 24 X 7 position.   

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in nursing or any bachelor's degree plus a master's degree in nursing required.

EXPERIENCE: Must have knowledge/experience in nursing principles and theory, skills in applying adult learning principles, assessment and evaluation skills, skills in interpreting complex data, knowledge of evidence-based nursing, Joint Commission accreditation standards, and Virginia nursing licensure requirements. Must have strong oral and written communication skills, project management skills, time management skills, organizational skills, training skills, customer service skills, and strong follow up skills. Must be able to think critically, be creative and have the ability to take initiative to improve processes. Must be self-motivated and able to work independently. Must be a team player.

Must have 3 years of OR experience in an acute care facility. Teaching experience is preferred as the position will be teaching Surgical Services Orientation at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital where this position will be located.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION: Currently licensed as Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia AHA BLS-HCP required. May be required to obtain/maintain, ACLS, PALS, NRP based on specific work unit.

OTHER: Must successfully complete orientation and competency requirements. Keyboarding skills and computer literacy required for automated computer systems, including electronic medical records. Must be able to meet essential job functions.
