As Hospital Coding Specialist you will be responsible for:


Timely, accurate and comprehensive review of diagnoses and procedure services in both the inpatient and outpatient facility setting.
Assigning valid ICD10-CM, ICD-10-PCS and CPT codes, as appropriate, to ensure optimal reimbursement and comply with regulatory guidelines.
Analyze and code complex cases by reviewing documentation.
Identifies trends/problem in medical documentation and recommends possible solutions. Assists with billing and documentation inquiries.

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of experience.
Coding Certifications: AHIMA -Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), RHIT/RHIA. AAPC – Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC)
Minimum of one-year inpatient coding - all specialties.
Minimum of two years facility CPT coding - all specialties.
Working knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology.
Experience reviewing provider documentation and assigning appropriate ICD10-CM, PCS and CPT codes.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
In depth knowledge of regulatory and payer guidelines to ensure compliant coding.
Ability to meet accuracy and productivity metrics consistently.
Ability to work independently, with a HIPAA compliant workstation, and high-speed internet.
Consistently maintains professional credentials and knowledge of current ICD10-CM, ICD10-PCS and CPT coding guidelines and government regulations.
Ability to query physicians to clarify documentation when conflicting or incomplete information is found in the medical record.


Preferred Experience:


One year of using Optum Enterprise Computer Assisted Coding, Cerner and Centricity platforms.
