Faculty Development Assistant

Duties: Under direction from the Director of Faculty and Academic Support, will be responsible for providing a wide variety of advanced support for law school faculty scholarship. Proofreading and editing of faculty articles, books, chapters, etc., as well as publicizing faculty activities via internal and external communication channels. Will be privy to confidential records and conversations, and constantly handles multiple projects of varying complexity and changing priorities. Works with a number of the 50+ faculty members and is also is responsible for providing backup support to additional faculty when colleagues are unavailable. Backup support may include general administrative support (copying, printing, answering telephones, etc.) to support for teaching (class preparation, grade entry, letters of recommendation), support for research/scholarship (travel, reimbursement requests, etc.), and support for programs. Interacts with internal and external clients, including students, colleagues at law school, departments across campus, alumni, judicial staff, potential employers, and the general public. Provide editing support to faculty related to scholarship, including, but not limited to, proofreading drafts of work; editing journal articles, book chapters, books, correspondence, memoranda, book reviews, etc.; ensuring consistency in style and grammar; editing Bluebook citations; formatting drafts to meet author, law school, or journal requirements; preparing drafts of presentations and/or enhancing content of presentations; creating indexes, table of contents, spreadsheets, etc., as requested by faculty; examining and correcting page proofs; corresponding with publishers; working closely with librarians and faculty support team to support faculty research and to ensure that faculty members have resources available to complete projects effectively; etc. Assist in tracking and publicizing faculty scholarship and travel, including: entering faculty scholarship and travel into faculty activities database; checking in with faculty members to obtain full citations and/or updates after actual publication; tracking when faculty articles are accepted during law review submission cycles; updating faculty profile pages; posting faculty scholarship on website; etc. Provide backup support for faculty teaching as well as general administrative support, including, but not limited to: preparing seating charts, attendance charts, and class rolls; printing syllabi; obtaining textbook adoption information; communicating with students; assisting with classroom technology; assisting with Canvas and TWEN; proofreading and organizing class materials and correspondence; proofreading, printing, and submitting letters of recommendation; proofreading, printing, and coordinating exams (working with student affairs office); coordinating exam review; entering grades; assisting the faculty member with checking the mean grades; mailing business documents and packages; ordering office supplies; faxing, copying, printing, and scanning documents; proofreading documents and correspondence; converting PDF documents to Word; assisting with obtaining or retrieving forms, documents, information, and articles from various sources (including LexisNexis and Westlaw); filing and organizing documents and/or creating filing systems; scheduling meetings and reserving meeting space; maintaining calendars; and other related tasks. *This area of support requires entry of grades and handling of confidential information. Strict guidelines of the law school and university must be followed. Provide support to Associate Dean for Faculty Development, including, but not limited to: designing flyers and coordinating logistics for faculty workshops; developing and managing a calendar of meetings, deadlines, and events; drafting and editing correspondence; designing graphics and posters for speaker mementos; etc. Special projects and support as assigned, which may include, but is not limited to: providing administrative support to faculty committees, coordinating meeting logistics, supporting programs (certificates, capstone courses, legal drafting program, etc.), supporting development of online instruction and/or interdisciplinary programs, handling travel arrangements for guest speakers, maintaining program files, compiling data and conducting research according to general instruction, etc. Departmental activities and professional development, including, but not limited to: attending departmental meetings to stay informed and provide a high level of customer service and information to faculty, students, and colleagues; proficiently using a variety of programs to complete work and maintain proficiency; taking initiative to attend and participate in development and training workshops, courses, etc., to gain new knowledge and skills and to broaden technical experience.
