Description
We seek a talented and collaborative scientist to engage in high impact computational biology research in partnership with multiple Thematic Research Centers (TRC). A key focus will be the analysis and integration of high dimensional molecular profiling datasets from multiple case-control cohorts with deep clinical phenotypes. They will be embedded in a team of computational scientists working with the TRC to launch novel drug development programs based on human biology and prioritize early clinical programs in therapeutic areas of interest.
The successful candidate will collaborate with a team of scientists across various disciplines related to computational biology and image analysis as required, and will rely on expertise in network and pathway-based approaches to design hypothesis generation and validation experiments. They will contribute to a globally-distributed team within the BMS Informatics & Predictive Sciences (IPS) department, engaged in collaborative target validation and patient selection research.
Responsibilities
Work with a multidisciplinary team of scientists who use genetics and complementary omics data to identify novel targets and develop therapeutic hypotheses for indications of interest.
Identify target opportunities with high odds of success from computational analysis of both proprietary and public datasets.
Deliver insights from mechanism of action and disease stratification studies.
Work with external consortia to empower future efforts in TRCs.
Participate in writing of scientific reports. Presentation of methods, results and conclusions to a publishable standard.
Background experience & complementary knowledge
Ph.D. in bioinformatics, computational biology, computer science, or related fields; with a very strong publication record demonstrating computational expertise and the ability to analyze high throughput datasets.
3 years post-doctoral experience with bioinformatic/predictive research in academic, or industry environments.
Experience analyzing high dimensional bulk and single cell sequencing data.
Fluency in Unix, R, and Python and collaborative development skills using version control systems (e.g. Git).
Experience with notebook-based reproducible analysis tools (e.g. Jupyter, R Markdown) required.
Background knowledge in aspects of neuroscience, imaging and immunology and/or related bioinformatics and computational biology approaches preferred.
Deep scientific expertise in omics-based molecular epidemiology, and statistical/ML methods for predictive modeling preferred.
Strong scripting/programming skills.
Experience in drug development for early discovery efforts in Neuroscience and Immunology preferred.
Demonstrated ability to build strong working relationships that facilitate effective collaboration across cross-functional teams.
Track record of excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including ability to provide concise summaries of complex data to empower decision making.
