Job Summary:
This position is knowledgeable of the operation of an electrical distribution system from substation to customer; mechanical forces associated with both overhead and underground structures that support or carry electrical lines or equipment; and Joint Use and ability to process internal and external joint attachment requests from beginning to end. Provides customer service related to requests involving the electrical distribution system. Responsibilities/Duties:
· Control, monitor, or operate equipment that regulates or distributes electricity or steam, using data obtained from instruments or computers. · Coordinate with engineers, planners, field personnel, or other utility workers to provide information such as clearances, switching orders, or distribution process changes. · Respond to emergencies, such as transformer or transmission line failures, and route current around affected areas. · Track conditions that could affect power needs, such as changes in the weather, and adjust equipment to meet any anticipated changes. Prepare switching orders that will isolate work areas without causing power outages, referring to drawings of power systems
Requirements:
Knowledge of electrical distribution system design such as wire sizing and amperage, voltage configuration, switching, and metering
Knowledge of electrical distribution components such as relays, fuses, regulators, capacitors, reclosers, transformers, and meters
Ability to perform voltage drop, fault current, and arc flash calculations and load estimations
Knowledge of electrical codes and standards such as IEEE and NESC
Proficiency in AutoCad, Microstation, or other CAD system Preferred Qualifications
Degree in Electrical Engineering T with at least 1 year experience
Knowledge of utility structure material stresses, vectors, wire sag, and construction methods
Knowledge of Department of Transportation project design and execution
