Leading eCommerce retailer based in San Francisco is seeking an eCommerce Technical Manager. The eCommerce Technical Manager works as part of the Architecture & Application Development group and is primarily responsible for overseeing application development, testing and support efforts, and contributing to the creation of a nimble and responsive application development organization. The eCommerce Technical Manager works with the Director of IT responsible for technical management and member of several interdisciplinary groups in order to plan, guide, and oversee implementation of software solutions that support company’s business goals. Technical solutions, delivered primarily via projects, must integrate seamlessly with the rest of the technology platform, satisfy quality standards and fulfill architectural principles. Projects are typically of moderate to medium complexity.
The eCommerce Technical Manager provides guidance and direction to project team members – project managers, solution architects, developers, QA, etc. and fosters communication and collaboration among support teams (release management, systems infrastructure, etc.) to ensure a complete and functioning solution that delivers value to the business. Also ensures that the organization continues to be nimble and responsive to changing needs, requiring a dedication to continuous analysis and improvement of our processes. The eCommerceTechnical Manager is a key contributor to this effort and is responsible for promoting adherence to Agile development methodology, as well as identifying opportunities for improvement, implementing process changes and establishing metrics to keep track of the organization’s effectiveness. Clear, open communication across and among teams is essential to organizational adoption of process change and the eCommerce Technical Manager leverage skills of communication, influence and thought leadership in order to drive the needed organizational alignment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for the incremental development of an enterprise technology platform.
Accountable for ensuring project delivery excellence across the entire application spectrum
Provides leadership and direction for software architects, quality assurance engineers, developers and other technologists
Works closely with key business leaders to define strategies for business applications and processes
Works with business and IT leadership to prioritize support and tactical issues to address immediate business needs while maintaining strategic direction
Plans resource needs and allocations to support projects, initiatives, and support
Evaluates business needs, researches and formulates application solutions, and makes solution recommendations to the IT senior leadership
Ensures service levels are understood and met
Proactively engages other leaders in cross-functional efforts. Openly shares plans and strives to prevent surprises for other organizations
Fosters open communication within and between teams
Communicates effectively with IT management. Keeps IT leaders apprised of any issues or concerns. Takes a ‘no surprises’ approach to communication within the department and with the business
Sets uncompromisingly high standards of performance for self and subordinates
Displays a strong work ethic and sense of urgency. Demonstrates strong initiative to make things happen
Displays a strong ambition in gaining skills and knowledge that benefit company. Stays abreast of industry trends and best practices
Acts as a change agent, initiating appropriate changes to support business growth, reduce operational costs, and/or improve service levels
Acts as a role model and mentor for other managers, developers, and QA personnel
Ensure effective communications—up, down and across the business
REQUIREMENTS:
10 years software development experience with at least 4 years management
3-5 years of experience in developing large scale eCommerce applications
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college, or equivalent experience
Understanding of online apparel retailing business processes
Able to lead and direct work of others, including development and test engineers.
Demonstrated ability to integrate people and teams.
Solid understanding of commercial software engineering practices and tools.
Full lifecycle software development experience.
Solid knowledge of industry standards and techniques in development and testing.
Experience in working with version control and defect management systems.
Familiar with object-oriented analysis and design.
Ability to influence technical discussions and decisions.
Experience with service-oriented architectures. (SOA)
Experience with UML-based modeling.
