Associate General Counsel
Duties: Provide a high level of professional legal service to the **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***.. Will advise University personnel on a wide array of legal issues arising in the context of higher education and will interact with members of the legal profession, outside agencies, and others as required to perform his or her job responsibilities. Research compliance, contracts and transactional work, construction, real estate, student matters, employee matters, academic matters, intellectual property, athletics, risk management, and other areas. Provide legal counsel and guidance to the University’s Board of Trustees and administration on matters pertaining to the University’s activities and operations. Receive and respond to inquiries from University personnel on legal matters relating to the University’s activities and operations. Anticipate, research, and identify legal issues in order to develop legal strategies and solutions in matters involving the University’s activities and operations. Review, consult on, and draft, as necessary, University policies and procedures. Review, consult on, and draft, as necessary, contracts with third parties, including but not limited to contracts for the purchase of goods and services, research agreements, real estate transactions, construction projects, and affiliation agreements. Represent or oversee the representation of the University in judicial and administrative proceedings. Supervise and manage work performed by outside legal counsel. Design and deliver training as needed to the campus community on legal issues impacting the University’s activities and operations. Participate in the supervision of the response to subpoenas served upon the University. Stay abreast of developments in the law that will impact the University and its operations. Serve on and/or advise University committees as a representative of the Office of the General Counsel. Maintain professional growth and development through seminars, professional affiliations and other means to remain informed of developments in legal matters affecting the University’s activities and operations. Perform other duties as assigned, required, or requested. Will report to the General Counsel. Working with the General Counsel, the Associate General Counsel may supervise the activities of staff or student interns in the Office of the General Counsel.
