Duties: Addressing the unmet legal needs of low-income community residents in Southern Arizona by providing free legal representation; helping students to transition from the educational environment into the practice environment by providing continuity of legal training and experience for new James E. Rogers College of Law graduates; and promoting professionalism, mentorship, and public service among James E. Rogers College of Law students and graduates. Serve as PILG Fellows for a one-year term. One Fellow may be renewed for a second-year term. May anticipate continuing on to successful careers setting up their own solo practice, joining a small firm practice, or joining prestigious local and national legal service and advocacy organizations. Fellows will be expected to manage a full docket of cases, conduct legal consultations at off-site locations, conduct community outreach and public education events, mentor current students, participate in clinic programs for current students, assist in the gathering of case and client data for grant and other reports, and to participate in both quarterly reviews as well as professional and promotional events for the PILG and the James E. Rogers College of Law, some of which may be held outside of typical work hours. The PILG is a high volume practice with a substantial docket of complex litigation matters. Fellows will work evenings and weekends whenever necessary to meet legal and other professional deadlines. Will attend an orientation and receive intensive training in immigration law and procedure.
