JOLTS Report Says Job Openings Fell in December, EmploymentCrossing.com Still Finds 2.28 Million Job Openings

February 13, 2013 — Pasadena, California — The Bureau of Labor Statistics has released its JOLTS report (Job Openings and Labor Turnover Summary) in which it says that as of December 2012 there were 3.617 million job openings.

There were 3.79 million job openings in November 2012, the highest in the last four years. Although the job openings have decreased slightly, job search site EmploymentCrossing.com has still been able to find 2.28 million job openings as of February 13, 2013.

The drop in job openings is being attributed to employers who want to delay hiring. One of the factors for them is that lawmakers are still debating current tax and spending programs, according to Bloomberg.

The JOLTS report says that the hiring rate fell in construction and also in the professional and business services. The hires rate was also relatively unchanged in all four regions of the country. The total number of quits (where employees voluntarily leave their jobs) stood at 2.2 million.

On EmploymentCrossing.com, the healthcare industry shows the highest number of job openings at 420,583. Sales positions are in high demand among employers as well, which has resulted in 266,064 sales job openings. The retail industry is also still a huge jobs creator with 261,769 job openings.

Retail - 261,769 job openings
Information Technology- 246,935 job openings
Recruiting - 228,339 job openings
Hospitality- 198,358 job openings
Engineering - 166,695 job openings
Nursing- 148,129 job openings
Customer Service- 120,358 job openings
Financial Services- 111,835 job openings

Accounting with over 78,000 job openings and the education sector with 56,000 job openings are also both still major employers.
