April 16, 2013 — Pasadena, California- The latest Job Openings and Labor Turnover Summary (JOLTS) released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) shows that there were 3.9 million job openings in the United States as of the last day of February 2013. In January 2013, there were 3.6 million job openings according to the BLS.

Job research website EmploymentCrossing.com supports this finding by reporting that the site’s database currently has 1.97 million job openings.

The quits rate (people voluntarily leaving their jobs) is also increasing. The BLS report states that 2.16 million fall in this category. News website Business Insider says that the number of Americans who are quitting their jobs has increased and the quit rate is now at its highest level in five years.

The total number of hires reported by the BLS stood at 4.41 million in February 2013, compared to 4.29 million in January 2013. The total number of hires for the 12 months ending in February 2013 was 52 million and the total number of separations was 50.1 million (includes workers hired and separated more than once in those 12 months).

Job search website EmploymentCrossing.com has also consistently been able to report almost two million job openings every month for the past 12 months. Currently the site has 1.975 million job openings across the country.

Healthcare industry continues to be the number one jobs creating machine with 355,546 healthcare job openings. This sector has continued to retain its top slot since the beginning of the year according to an analysis of the site’s database.

The other top five job creating industries based on the most recent data on the site are:

Information Technology – 250,737 job openings

Sales – 215,563 job openings

Retail – 199,625 job openings

Engineering – 152,776 job openings

Nursing – 130,752 job openings
