Hydraulic engineer jobs may include those of a hydraulic engineer, hydraulic manifold designer, design engineer - hydraulic cylinders, hydraulic technician, maintenance technician, hydraulic test technician, pneumatic test technician, research hydraulic engineer, hydraulic mechanic technician, application engineer – hydraulic division, and hydraulic product designer. Typical responsibilities for most hydraulic engineering positions include designing hydraulic valves and hydraulic power systems, and servicing or maintenance of hydraulic pumps and other equipments. Hydraulic managerial positions may be responsible for ensuring environmental health and safety regulations, making technical suggestions to the management, evaluating the performance of hydraulic technicians, and handling technical as well as administrative issues in the plant.

A hydraulic technician or any other blue collar position in this area may require a high school diploma and a certification in the area of mechanical engineering or hydraulics engineering. Generally hydraulic engineers have a bachelor’s of science degree in mechanical engineering or master\'s degree specializing in hydraulics.
