Hydrogeologist Jobs

Hydrogeologists investigate and explore the occurrence of groundwater beneath the ground, rocks, and their discharge outlets. Hydrogeologists study the mechanism behind the flow of groundwater while hydrologists explore surface water. The hydrogeologists explore groundwater for studying the natural and man-made constituents present in it. They also study the contaminants present in the water their origin, and their movement. Hydrogeologists basically determine the nature of various rock types and their water-bearing capacities. They evaluate, assess and assist in maintaining the quality of groundwater to the optimum, to prevent water scarcity. Hydrologists also work with other consultants, specialists and environmental regulators for facilitating well performance, aquifer response and quality changes. Finally, they also record water table changes and impose measures to improve upon it.

Hydrogeologists should at least be a post graduate in geology and several years of experience in field work to become an independent hydrogeologist. One is also required to have good computer skills that prove to be beneficial in operating computer simulation models of assessing groundwater.
