Major duties for an environmental specialist include participating in development and implementation of training programs; focusing on safety matters; conducting audits; formulating policies relating to environmental health and safety issues; maintaining safety-related programs like workers compensation, loss prevention, industrial hygiene substance abuse, fire protection and the like; performing site inspections; and promoting safety awareness in the organization. Such positions typically reports to the EHS manager or the HES program manager.

An environmental specialist should have a bachelor\'s degree in environmental management program or a OSHA related field. Prior experience working as EHS specialist, environmental health and safety assistant, environmental health and safety professional, HES consultant, or any position in the environmental safety area is a plus. Ability to make use of MS Word, and/or Excel may be required.
