In an employment report issued by the Conference Board, the agency said the nation could lose 2 million more jobs in the upcoming year.
The business research firm said its Employment Trends Index fell 1.6% last month to stand at 99.6.
The index has declined for 17 straight months, with drops of 1.6% or more over the past six months.
However, Wachovia chief economist John Silvia told CNNMoney.com that “the worst may be behind us and that 2 million more jobs seems a bit aggressive an assessment.”
