EmploymentCrossing Lists 725,500 Jobs in a Week; Employment Costs Rise in Q1

Pasadena, CA  — Employment costs in the United States managed to rise somewhat more that what was expected in the first quarter mostly boosted by benefits that swelled to the biggest jump in almost three years, according to the Labor Department data recently revealed.

The Employment Cost Index rose about 0.6 percent with respect to the first three months of the year, just above the previous quarter's rise of 0.4 percent. Salaries and wages comprised of 70 percent of compensation costs and rose about 0.4 percent. Benefits increased by about 1.1 percent. This is the biggest recorded gain since 2007 second quarter according to a Labor Department official. ''There was slight rise in the employment costs, but specifically, the US manufacturing industry, grew for the ninth consecutive month in April, at the fastest pace not witnessed in the last six years. This certainly points to a quickening economic recovery for the sector.'' says A. Harrison Barnes, CEO of EmploymentCrossing.

Elsewhere, the BIO/Battelle State Biosciences Initiatives report was issued which indicated that the total employment in the bioscience sector in the US has crossed 1.42 million along with 6.5 million biotech-supportive jobs.''
