Senior Attorney
The candidate will be responsible for: Prepares and renders legal advice and opinions to the district on various issues and inquiries. Coordinates responses to investigations by the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Civil Rights, Texas Education Agency, and other state and federal agencies. Provides legal advice to the various departments within the District. Monitors hearings related to Special Education matters handled by outside law firms, and/or prepare for and represent the District in Special Education hearings when necessary and appropriate. Reviews contracts and provides legal advice on the drafting of documents, rules and regulations, resolutions, contracts, and agreements. Conducts professional development/training and prepare training materials for designated staff regarding school law issues. Provides legal assistance in the drafting of proposed legislation. Remains current with Federal and state laws and rules impacting company policies and procedures. Prepares for and represents the school district in litigation and administrative hearings as assigned by the General Counsel, including drafting of necessary pleadings. Attends and provides advice at district and district-related meetings as directed by the General Counsel. Assists in grievance and employee disciplinary matters as assigned, including termination and nonrenewal hearings and appellate proceedings. Assists in the development and revision of district policies and administrative procedures. Assists the Director of Intergovernmental Relations in overseeing the alignment between district policy and practice. Assists in legal and litigation matters handled by outside firms employed by the company. Provides legal advice regarding responses to public information requests and prepares briefing requests for legal opinion from the Attorney General’s Office. Receives and responds to telephone inquiries from staff, as related to legal issues. Researches and analyzes federal law and regulations, policy guidance, and case law pertaining to Title IX requirements and claims. Assists the Title IX coordinator in preparing reports on Title IX compliance activities. Assists District administrators in coordinating or preparing responses to investigations by the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Civil Rights, Texas Education Agency, EEOC, and other state and federal agencies. Consults with staff regarding Title IX, harassment, discrimination and bullying concerns and federal and state law applicable to each. Dedicated to providing an exceptional customer experience for all company stakeholders with intentional and professional practices that promote a culture of respect and focus on achieving equitable outcomes. Must have an LLB Or JD degree from an accredited college or university and 7+ years of related experience. Must have thorough knowledge and understanding of the legal system. Must have thorough knowledge of Federal, State, and Local rules and regulations pertaining to the district. Must have effective communication, presentation, and management skills. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills. Must be able to read, write, and speak/communicate in English in order to receive and to provide work-related information in a timely manner to other employees, supervisors, principals, school personnel, volunteers and where appropriate, visitors and students.
